It seems India will have to wait a wee bit longer to join the list of world super powers like Russia, US, France, Britain and China as the DRDO has informed that the test-firing of submarine launched ballistic missile (SLBM) K-15 has been rescheduled to January 31.

According to reports, the test was originally scheduled on January 16, but was postponed to January 20 and it has again been rescheduled to January 31 due to delay in arrangements and it is a coordinated exercise of both land and Navy personnel. It is also reported that countries like Russia, US, France, Britain and China already have advanced missiles that can be launched from a submarine and India is set to boost of the same technology once the tests are conducted successfully.

The completely home grown missiles are believed to be 10 metres in length, one metre in diameter and weigh ten tonnes and have a strike range of around 700 km. They use solid propellant and carries a conventional payload of about 500 kg to one tone and also be fitted with a tactical nuclear warhead.

The k-15 is believed to be India’s answer to Pakistan’s babur missiles and is believed to be at par with the tomhawks of the US of A. It is also reported that the Navy have demande for test of K-15′s cruise variant as it is hard to be obstructed and has pinpoint accuracy. cruise missiles are believed to be more difficult to detect and hence less vulnerable to anti-missile defence and hence an almost unbeatable offensive weapon.

Prime Minister Dr. Man Mohan Singh is set to inagurate Mobile Number Portabilty in the country today in New Delhi. It may be mentioned here that Mobile Number Portabilty is a service courtesy of which the consumer can switch to his prefered mobile service without having to change his number.

It had been announced since September last year that MNP will come into usage but it had been kept under trial since. The government had to think on MNP as the increasing usage of Mobile numbers was making the availabilty of numbers a difficlut thing and the govt. was left with the alternative to either increase the number of numericals in a mobile number from 10 to 11 or make MNP availbale throughout the country. And the second option was chosen the govt. after much discussuions. This service is also set to improve the services given to their customers by the telecom companies otherwise they may well have to lose their customers.

Earlier if a consumer wished to change his service provider he had to apply for a new sim card of the respective company and had to go through a lengthy process before obtaining a new one and also had to change his number which many found quite troublesome. But with Mobile Number Portabilty coming into effect a consumer can change his current provider to his prefered provider without having to change his number.

And telecom minister Sri Kapil Sibal is hopeful that MNP will create competitions amongst the telecom companies and force them to provide better services to their customers failing which they may well have to loose them.

Telecom service providers like idea Cellular and Vodafone have already started their campaigns regarding MNP and have even opened up toll free numbers to guide their current and would be customers through easy steps to MNP.

India has achieved another milestone in strengthening its defense by adding its very own home grown fighter aircraft Tejas to the air force. Tejas is considered as the World’s smallest one seater fighter aircraft. Although defence minister A K Antony has admitted that Tejas has just reached the ‘semi final’ stage at this point yet it is a major achievement for India given the fact that the country has been working on the project since 1983 and has already spend Rs 17,269 crores easily going past the the Rs 560 Cr mark which was earlier estimated. Yet the aircraft is expected to be included in the Indian Air Force by 2012 after rigorous rounds of test by the air force pilots.

The light weight air craft was designed jointly by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited(HAL) and Aeronautical Defense Agency and is all set to add to India’s presence in the air. It may not be completely indigenous given the fact that it has American GE engines as the indigenous Kaveri engine failing to pass muster despite Rs 2,839 crore being spent on it since 1989.But whatever be the case the euphoria over the tailless Tejas is massive and it can only further improve India’s stance as a World Power.

An upgraded surveillance system will soon come into act for the Lord Jagannath Temple at Puri. This sort of surveillance system will work 24 hours in a day and it will be donated by Nalco. This surveillance system will carry many cameras and these cameras will take care of the vantage points of the temple so that movements of pilgrims can be recorded with the most efficient approach. This unique system has got the ability to scan pilgrims from a specified distance and it will alert the security officials of the temple if there is something wrong. Now suspicious objects for Puri temple can be identified easily with this unique surveillance system.

At the temple an old surveillance system is already there. But due to the huge threats perception the temple administration has plead Nalco to offer this high end device. A new control room will be installed for this new surveillance system. Cameras will be installed for all the important regions of the temple except for the Sanctum Sanctorum.
