Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday said Radio Frequency Identifier Fitted testing tracks will be constructed in 15 districts in the first phase in the State. Patnaik was speaking at the State level observation of 24th National Road Safety Week here. “In the first phase, funds to the tune of Rs 7 crore have been provided to 15 districts for construction of RFID testing tracks. Once constructed, the driving skills will be tested more objectively which will be a big step towards safer roads,” said Patnaik. He also said testing of drivers, granting of driving license would be more transparent and objective by RFID.Vehicle population in our State is likely to grow to almost 50 lakhs from its present level of 34 lakhs so it is time to take a serious note of this development, and adopt measures whereby no family would lose their bread earners on this account, Patnaik observed. Patnaik also said six more Heavy Vehicle Driving Training Institutes would be opened in different parts of the State soon to have good quality and trained drivers. “As more than 90 percent of the road accidents are caused due to human error, it can be reduced if the road users are educated on traffic rules,” Patnaik observed.Commerce and Transport Minister Subrata Tarai, Transport Commissioner Surendra Kumar and many senior Government officials were present on the occasion.
