A massive offensive attack in the bauxite mines of Nalco, Damanjodi by Maoists for the purpose of looting stocks of explosives killed two of the CISF(Central Industrial Security Force) personnel at around 9 ‘ o ‘ clock in the night.
Although 300 CISF personals guard the mine at hilltop, it is unfortunate that only 50 of them were there at the time of attack.Maoists has demolished the mobile tower situated in the campus. In a similar attack three years earlier, Maoists had looted a lot of arms and ammunition from Baeladila mines in Bastar region of neighboring Chhattisgarh. It hasn’t yet reported that the guerrillas are successful in acquiring the explosives or not.
“Explosives are kept for exploring bauxite in the mine. The guerrillas were having an eye on it previously. So we have tightened the security. This helps us to fight with the Maoists.”Nalco CMD Chittaranjan Pradhan said.
A few days before a MLA candidate for Malkanagiri constituency , Santosh Madkami has been killed by Maoists. The guerrillas have repeatedly threatened candidates as well as voters to refrain from participating in the votes. This attack is another threatening from them.
This incident brought back the memories of February 2004, when Maoists seized the district headquarter town of Koraput and looted armories, and the February 2008 attack on Nayagarh town, in which 15 policemen were gunned down for the same purpose.
“There were no confirmation of casualitied yet.The encounter is still going on.But a CISf inspector and a jawan were dead, “said DIG, Sanjeeb Panda.
