Election! Election! Election! ….finally over

After a lot of campaigning including road rally to songs on media, today the exam is over. For a seat of 543 in loksabha the election was conducted in five phases all over the country. Today the fifth and final phase election was over in 7 states- Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Uttar pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Punjab and 2 union territories- Chandigarh and Puducherry. This phase constitutes 86 seats for which there were total 1432 candidates .


The polling percentage was overall good as reported by chief election commissioner.Tamil Nadu was recorded a voting percentage of 60-62%, West Bengal with 70% , Himachal Pradesh with 55%, Punjab with 60-65%, Jammu & Kashmir with 40-45%, Uttarakhand with 50-55%, Uttar Pradesh with 52% and the two union territories Chandigarh with 65% and Puducherry with 75%.The average voting was 59-60% which was pretty good as said by chief election commissioner, Naveen Chawla.


Voting has been finished in Tamil Nadu with a little violence reported in some places. Jayalalitha , Karunanidhi , Mamata Banerjee are among the political individuals who were seen at poll booths.Jyoti Basu couldn’t give vote for health reasons. In Uttar Pradesh Varun Gandhi, Meneka Gandhi, Jayaprada, P Chidambaram, Dayanidhi Maran, Md. Azharuddin were the chief persons. Long queue in front of poll boothing was found in Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu & Kashmir. West Bengal was reported to have severe violence during voting. In a poll booth, 1 person was dead and 10 others were injured. In dumdum booth, Trunamool congress party men created disturbances during voting. Similarly in some places of Jammu & Kashmir and Punjab , a little violence has been seen.


Naveen Chawla said that the election was conducted smoothly even after a lot of odds and securities threat. The overall voting percentage was appreciable. He is immensely satisfied with 2009 election. But he deeply condole for the death of those individuals who has lost their lives during election either for naxalites attack or in scorching heat.


The result will come on 16th of this month. Exit poll has showed its result which says UPA will have 199 seats , NDA will have 191 and Third front with 104 seats.Who will lead the government is yet to be decided. Meanwhile politicians are seen before the temples with a hope to lead the next years.
