Meira Kumar, first woman to be the next Speaker

“It’s a historic moment for the country as a woman is going to be the speaker of Parliament”, says an overwhelming Meira Kumar, the candidate for the 14th Loksabha seat.

The candidate selected for the next Loksabha speaker seat is the dalit girl and daughter of ex deputy primeminister and a great leader JagJiban Ram, Ms. Meira Kumar.

A brief background of the candidate says Meira Kumar is a well educated eminent lawyer turned politician who represents Sasaram constituency and is a member of Indian National Congress.She is a M.A, B., L.L.B from Delhi University.In 1973 she joined Indian Foriegn Service and served at embassies in Spain, Mauritius and UK.

In 1985 she got introduced to the field of politics and got elected from Bijnor, Uttar pradesh.She became a member of 11th and 12th lok sabha from Delhi constituency.In 1999, she re-elected with vast majority.

Five-term Lok Sabha Member of Parliament is set to the first woman Speaker of the Lok Sabha after she emerged as the consensus candidate of the ruling United Progressive Alliance and the Opposition Bharatiya Janata Party.
